Zip File Instructions


What is a zip file?

The zipped file is a compressed file that is created to transport information (images, documents, or other files) over the internet. Think of a suitcase full of essential goods, it's packed and ready to be shipped. After the zip file is downloaded it will need to be changed into a normal file. So you will be able to gain access to the files. Below you'll find instructions on how to change a zip file into a normal file.


Windows XP, Vista, and 7

1. Locate your zip folder.
2. Right Click on it.
3. Choose Extract All
4. A guide will pop-up and show you the next steps on extracting and saving the folder on your computer.


Mac OS X

1. Open "Finder" and navigate to the Zip file you wish to unzip.
2. Choose (double-click) the file you wish to unzip.


Unzipping files in Linux

1. Open the shell prompt.
2. Enter the following: unzip entername.zip


If you do not have an un-zipping program, do search on the internet on unzipping software.

Saving by Right-Clicking

3. Choose "Save Image As"
4. Name the image.
5. Press Save.


Drag and Drop

This is also a very versatile way on saving an image to your computer. If you're in a rush to download an image, you'll simply drag the image to your computer.

1. Move the mouse over the image.
2. Click and hold.
3. While holding, drag the image to the desktop.
4. This image will automatically be downloaded to the Desktop.
5. You can rename this image, if desired.
